Fraternities and Sororities bring in new members through a process called membership intake. Membership intake is the process selection, education, and initiation of new members into the organization over a period of time set by the specific organization. Some organizations participate in membership intake each semester while others do so once a year.
The LEAD Office sets a minimum requirement for all new members:
1st Time Freshmen | Transfer Students |
Organizations allowing first-time freshman:
|
|
EOP Enrolled Students are not eligible to join a Greek Organization until their sophomore year. | |
Requirements for 2nd semester freshman to join:

To show interest in joining a specific organization, an interested person should attend Welcome Week, Greek Week (Tabling on the East Walkway), Meet the Greeks, and Informationals (individual organization's events). It is essential to allow the members of the organization to get know who you are before their membership intake process and attending their events is a great way to build those relationships. Generally, when a chapter begins the membership intake process, they will hold an informational meeting. This meeting will be an opportunity to learn more about the organization and get specific questions answered about the intake process. All these events will be advertised via Toro Link and social media.
